FIELD NOTES: PHONETIC_CONSTRUCTION_01 // THE CRYPTIC LINGUISTIC
ðə krɪptɪk lɪŋɡwɪstɪk began as an attempt to construct an album from
phonetic categories rather than words.
Each track isolates a different family of speech sounds: voiceless obstruents,
implosives, trills, approximants, lateral fricatives, plosives, uvular and
pharyngeal articulations, ejectives, clicks, taps, flaps, sibilants and
pharyngealised resonance.
The result sits somewhere between linguistic demonstration, sound art,
machine hallucination and experimental composition.

Tuner Peg Snaps: Voiceless obstruents: bursts, hisses, scrapes and abrupt closures.
Digital Stomach Growl: Implosives and inward-drawn pressure shifts.
Film Projector Fire: Trills, vibration, rattling machinery and unstable rotation.
Wlly-llw Glitch: Approximants and liquids melting between speech and synthesis.
Hulth Zhlth: Lateral fricatives, side-channel airflow and pressurised turbulence.
Puk Tuk Diagnostic: Plosives treated as switches, triggers and machine pulses.
Khakh Xhax Qhaq: Uvular and pharyngeal friction from the rear of the vocal tract.
Square-Wave Puncture: Ejectives as high-pressure bursts through overloaded circuitry.
Щёлк Квант Узел: Clicks as vacuum releases, relay chatter and quantum junctions.
Hollow Drum Silence: Labial-velar double articulations in sparse acoustic space.
Rhad Vhad: Taps and flaps: tiny collisions between articulators.
Tilted Cymbal-Wind: Sibilant friction drifting between voice, weather and cymbal wash.
Bronze Gong Moan: Pharyngealised resonance and cavernous vocal colour.
P-Kay Prrrrrt: Long-form pan-phonetic anarchy. Every mechanism active at once.
What remains is not language, but the machinery beneath language: airflow, pressure, vibration, resonance, friction and release.
