NANS! Disc Two cover artwork
The other side of piskie musical culture.

House, techno, psytrance, jungle, acid, Kernowek-pop, speed garage, subterranean bass, happy hardcore and whatever else seemed like a good idea after the lights came on.

Large loudspeakers are recommended.

TRANSMISSION RECORD: NANS! // DISC TWO // RAVE

If Disc One preserves the traditional repertoire, Disc Two demonstrates what happened after the piskies encountered amplifiers, synthesisers, drum machines, sequencers and very large bass bins.

The result is not a single dance style. Each track occupies a different corner of the same imagined piskie rave: sometimes euphoric, sometimes strange, occasionally subterranean, and generally unlikely to comply with local licensing conditions.

FIELD NOTES:

Deus Genen Ni: The invitation. Dark piskie psytrance and a voice using just enough English to make the meaning unmistakable: “Com... wif... uz...”

Golow Glas: Blue light translated into the language of the dance floor: strobes, LEDs, lasers and progressive house.

Jynn Pyski: Hard modern techno. The machinery becomes rhythm and the piskies appear entirely comfortable with the arrangement.

Res!: Jungle and drum & bass at piskie velocity: running feet, chopped breaks and extremely questionable navigational advice.

Pyskies Splann!: K-Pop, provided that the K stands for Kernowek. A polished piskie idol-rave track with choreography, group hooks and entirely unnecessary confidence.

Kylgh an Pyskies: An old-school acid-house circle dance. Raw drum machines, squelching bass and the peculiar impression that an innocent Cornish word may be encouraging something rather more violent.

Radyo an Pyskies: Speed garage and 2-step transmitted from an underground piskie radio station whose exact location remains unavailable.

Faborden Yn-dann Dhor: The rave slows down without becoming quieter. Half-time subterranean bass transmitted through stone, floor and ribcage.

Arta!: Again. The second wind arrives at approximately 170 BPM and nobody appears inclined to object.

Na Hwath!: Not yet. Morning has been mentioned, rejected, and postponed by collective agreement.

Dons Diwettha: The last proper dance of the night. A long euphoric farewell: one final build, one final chorus, and one final chance for everybody to insist that morning can wait just a little longer.

Radio an Piskieez (Remix): The rave itself is over. The lights are coming up, equipment is being packed away, and the floor is slowly emptying — although the piskie radio appears to have no particular intention of stopping.

LINGUISTIC NOTE: Kylgh means “circle”. The piskies are dancing in one, not issuing instructions.

SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL FOLLOWS

FIELD RECORDINGS // UNVERIFIED

A small amount of material appears to have survived outside the formal recordings.

The sequence below is reconstructed from what remained.
FRAGMENT 01 // THE ENCOUNTER
While walking near an old engine house, flashing lights were noticed where no flashing lights had any obvious reason to be.

Closer inspection revealed music.

Then, quite distinctly:

“Com... wif... uz...”

What happened immediately afterwards is less clear.
FRAGMENT 02 // INSIDE
A second fragment suggests that I did, at some point, make it inside.

Quite how long I remained there is uncertain.

The piskies, however, appear to have been having an excellent evening.
