The AI was given one minimal stimulus. The listener is not.
Can the original concept be recovered from the music alone?
FIELD NOTES: WORDS_01 // BLIND LISTENING EXPERIMENT
WORDS began with a deliberately simple question:
If an AI is given only a word, what does that word sound like to it?
A second question followed naturally:
If the listener is not told the word, can they hear it anyway?
METHOD // TITLES WITHHELD
Each piece was generated from a single minimal stimulus: usually one word,
and in two cases a single punctuation mark. No genre, instrumentation, tempo,
structure, mood or compositional technique was specified.
For this listening test the original track titles and individual track artwork
are deliberately hidden. The album cover remains static to reduce visual priming.
Below is a shuffled bank of possible words and definitions. There are more definitions
than tracks; some are distractors. A definition may be used more than once,
so elimination alone cannot solve the test.
Listen first. Choose the definition that feels most consistent with the music.
Confidence is optional, but useful.

ASSIGN THE DEFINITIONS:
You do not need to answer every track in one sitting. Your choices are saved
in this browser and may be submitted again later; newer answers replace older
answers for the same browser participant ID.
Participation in the listening experiment is optional. If you submit responses,
WORDS stores a pseudonymous participant ID, your selections, optional confidence
ratings, approximate listening time and basic browser information for analysis of
the experiment. Local browser storage is also used to remember your choices.
No name or email address is requested.

The test is intentionally simple. It does not prove that a musical form has one
objectively correct meaning. It asks whether listeners independently associate
these AI-generated pieces with the same concepts that originally prompted them,
and whether those associations survive when the titles and artwork are removed.
// CLASSIFICATION: ASSOCIATION TEST
THE WORD WAS GIVEN TO THE MACHINE.
It is now withheld from the listener.
