An archived Global Rent-a-Scope presentation
This is an original presentation from Global Rent-a-Scope (GRAS), a pioneering remote-telescope service.
Global Rent-a-Scope was founded by astronomer and astrophotographer Arnie Rosner (1937–2020). Brad Moore later became a key figure in the development and operation of the GRAS network, which evolved into iTelescope in 2011, with Brad as its Managing Director.
The presentation explains the processing of astronomical images and features Arnie himself providing the narration. I spoke with Arnie on several occasions during the days when GRAS was operating, usually when one of the remote telescopes had developed a problem. He was always a friendly and helpful chap, and hearing his voice again after all these years makes this rather more than just an old technical demonstration.
I preserved this copy from the GRAS website in around 2008, although the presentation itself may well pre-date that. I have been unable to find this original presentation among the material currently available from iTelescope, so it is retained here as a surviving record of the GRAS era.
It was originally produced as a Camtasia/Adobe Flash presentation and, like most Flash content, eventually became unplayable in modern web browsers. The original files have been retained here essentially unchanged and are now being played through Ruffle, allowing the presentation to run once again in a modern browser.
