Planetary Nebula JnEr1 (PN G164.8+31.1)
What a triumph! After so many trials and tribulations during the imaging sessions.
This is Planetary Nebula JnEr1 (Jones Emberson 1, or PN G164.8+31.1) in Lynx RA 7:57:52.5 Dec 53:25:18:0. Also known as the "Headphones"
Angular size 6.3 Arc min, V mag 16.83, B mag 16.53. Taken using G7 over several nights, April 1 - April 3 2008
18 x Clear 300 sec subs bin 1
8 x Red 300 sec subs bin 2
9 x Green 300 sec subs bin 2
8 x Blue 300 sec subs bin 2
14 x Ha 300 sec subs mixture of bin 1 & 2
Cropped to approx 9x9 arc min. and is in fact a combination of 2 data sets. One processed by myself, the other by Ido at the Bareket Observatory to whom I owe many thanks (in all fairness to Ido, his version is a quick 5 minute example, mine is a 3 hour marathon of wrong clicks an cussing)
A difficult target due to its very low surface brightness. Probably an old shell of gas. The background galaxies seen through this ethereal bubble of gas only add to its gossamer appearance.
OK, maybe not APOD material, but I have a scanner, a copy of S&T and Photoshop. Hmmmn.....that give me an idea... [smiley=cheesy.gif]
