Auroral Imaging from Shepshed, Leicestershire (2024–2025)
This entry documents a series of auroral observations recorded from Shepshed, Leicestershire during periods of enhanced geomagnetic activity between May 2024 and January 2025.
The material presented here is drawn from ground-based imaging carried out from a fixed UK location, using long-exposure and video-based techniques to capture faint auroral structure at low geomagnetic latitudes.
Although aurorae are rarely visible from these latitudes, periods of elevated solar and geomagnetic activity can occasionally produce detectable emissions close to the northern horizon. The data shown here represent several such events, ranging from faint green arcs and diffuse curtains to extended red skyglow.
Representative frames from the observations are shown below:
11 May 2024 – faint green arc forming low on the northern horizon.
10 Oct 2024 – peak red auroral curtain spanning much of the northern sky.
1 Jan 2025 – weak but verified auroral glow during minor geomagnetic activity.
This post has been added to the restored YaBB astronomy archive to document more recent observational work and to demonstrate continuity beyond the original lifetime of the forum software.
